Bonnie Walters believes that education is the most important thing a person can do to make their life better. She was born in America in the state of California and moved to Alaska when she was 5 years old. Her mother was a school teacher so education was always a very important part of her life. Her biggest interest in school was science and after graduating from high school she went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she earned a degree in Biology.
After graduation, she moved back to Alaska and went to work for the state government. She worked for the Department of Transportation in the highway safety field for many years and was able to retire in 2014. While she was working, she went back to school and earned a Master of Business Administration degree. She has always enjoyed learning and going to school and believe that you can never get too much education. She is supporting this essay competition because she think it is important for young people to think about the role of education in sustainable development and what they can do to promote this idea. Her hope is that some some of these essays will result in projects that allow students to help themselves, their community and the world to achieve sustainable development , one small step at a time. She invites all students to participate in this contest and look forward to reading the amazing ideas that are put forward
